I borrowed this poem from a friend on Facebook. I think it sums up the year really well :-(
T'was a month before Christmas,π
And all through the town,
People wore masks,π·
That covered their frown.
The frown had begun☹️
Way back in the Spring,π·
When a global pandemic π
Changed everything.
They called it corona,
But unlike the beer,πΊ
It didn’t bring good times,
It didn’t bring cheer.π»
Contagious and deadly,☠️
This virus spread fast,
Like a wildfire that startsπ₯
When fueled by gas ⛽️
Airplanes were grounded,π¬
Travel was banned.
Borders were closed
Across air, sea and land.π«π₯π
As the world entered lockdownπ
To flatten the curve,↩️
The economy halted,
And folks lost their verve.π
From March to July
We rode the first waveπ♀️π
People stayed home,
They tried to behave.π‘
When summer emergedπ
The lockdown was lifted.
But away from caution,
Many folks drifted. π⛱π©³π©±
Now it’s Novemberπ¨❄️❄️
And cases are spiking,
Wave two has arrived,ππ
Much to our disliking.
Frontline workers,
Doctors and nurses π©Ίπ₯Όπ¨π»⚕️π©πΌπ¬π©π½⚕️
Try to save people,
From riding in hearses.πͺ¦
This virus is awful,π’
This COVID-19.
There isn’t a cure.
Not yet a vaccine.π
It’s true that this year
Has had sadness a plenty,π
We’ll never forget
The year 2020.π§»π§»π§»π§΄
And just ‘round the corner -
The holiday season,ππ πΌ
But why be merry?
Is there even one reasonπ©π½πΌ✝️
To decorate the house
And put up the tree,π
When no one will see it,
No one but me.πππ€¦♀️
But outside my windowπͺ
The winter now calls,π¨
And I think to myself,
Let’s deck the halls!☃️⛄️☃️⛄️
So, I gather the ribbon,π
The garland and bows,π
As I play those old carols,
My happiness grows.π₯°π€©π₯°π€©π₯³
Christmas is not cancelled⛪️ππ πΌ
And neither is hope.
If we lean on each other,π¨π©π¦π¦
I know we can cope ❤π
